Portland City Council OKs a Per Unit Landlord Fee

On Wednesday, Portland mayor Ted Wheeler and the City Council adopted an annual $60 per unit fee for landlords, saying “the charge is necessary to collect better data about the city’s rental market” but many fear the cost could be passed down to tenants.

According to The Oregonian, The fee is to help fund the city’s renter services office, according to a government analysis. The office, stationed within the Portland Housing Bureau, enforces fair-housing laws, mediates landlord-tenant disputes and maintains a registry of rental units.

More than 300 new affordable homes are underway across greater Portland

From the “Metro Affordable Housing Update – July 2019”

In 2018, voters approved a $652.8 million affordable housing bond measure to create permanently affordable homes across greater Portland for seniors, working families, veterans and others who need them.

More than 300 new affordable homes are underway across greater Portland
The Metro Council has given the green light to four projects which will bring 339 new affordable homes to the region. The projects, located in Clackamas, Beaverton, Tigard, and Northeast Portland, will receive $40 million in Metro Housing Bond money, and account for almost 10 percent of the goals set for the affordable housing program approved by voters last November.

Helping the Mother of all Portland Food Cart Pods

The Portland Food Cart scene is an essential part of our community. The downtown pod on SW Alder and 10th is “the oldest and largest food cart pod in Portland and sometimes referred to as the “MotherPod.” This pod alone is home to 40 food carts, employing anywhere between 200 - 300 people, many of whom are people of color and immigrants.”

As you no doubt have heard, it’s being displaced to make way for a new development. This Go Fund Me is raising funds to help these local entrepreneurs find a permanent home in “The Culinary Corridor,” which has been proposed for SW 9th Ave. between Director Park and O’Bryant Park.”
